R.I.P. Nate Dogg
Hip Hop suffered another loss last night, Nathaniel "Nate Dogg" Hale has died at the age of 41. Born and raised in Long Beach, California. Nate Dogg first began singing in Long Beach's New Hope Baptist Church and Life Line Baptist Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi, where his father was a pastor. In 1991, he formed a rap trio 213 with friends and fellow LBC residents Warren G and Snoop Dogg. Their demo found it's way to Dr. Dre, who then enlisted all three members on his seminal debut The Chronic. Nate eventually signed with west coast records Death Row Records. As a solo artists Nate released 3 albums including 1998's G-Funk Classics Vol 1 &2., 2001 Music and Me, and his self-titled 2003 release. Nate Dogg established himself as a plethora of west coast hip hop and guest features. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hale family and friends.

Hustler of the Month!!
Words of Encouragement
Investing in yourself is the most important thing you should do in your life. Whatever it is you want for yourself you have to put that time in. There is a saying that success is 10% idea and 90% hard work. In an earlier post I stated how I went from not being enrolled in school, to being able to go back and make A's and B's the last two semesters. I invested in myself I also knew there was nothing that I wanted more than to be in school. You will never know what you can be until you invest in yourself. Make short term goals to get you to the larger goals, then go from there. You also have to be in Miracle Territory, which means put yourself in a position where you can be successful. Pray and have Faith also learn everything you can about your craft and find others who are where you want to be, in other words be a sponge and soak up everything you can to get you to where you want to be. Lose all fears and cast out all doubt, you can't have faith and fear. Invest in yourself that is your only chance at life and never let anyone or anything take away what GOD has for you.
Today's Thought!!!
GOD has a number; go get him on the phone but always remember he will never put you where you don't belong.
Looking for the Sun, Documentary on African Women Freedom Fighters
Looking For The Sun is a feature-length documentary which features the former women freedom fighters who participated in Eritrea’s 30 year armed independence war against Ethiopia. This documentary allows these Tegadelti [freedom fighters in Tigrinya] to the tell their own personal stories about the role they played in the struggle and their experiences in their own words. I believe that the contributions and sacrifices made by these women is something that the world needs to know more about and truly appreciate.
Eritrean women played a very prominent role in the Eritrean independence struggle and forced the male fighters, and later the population at large, to accept them on equal footing with men. Women helped transformed and shape Eritrean society by their role not only as freedom fighters but also as educators, health officers, commanders and also as mothers, aunts and sisters….their contributions to the development of Eritrea is something that the world should know and learn from.

Clap For Em'
While many high school seniors anxiously await acceptances from their favorite colleges and universities, Carroll High School senior Michael Davis can rest assured his future is set.
Davis has received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
"I've always looked at West Point as being one of the greatest institutions in America, but being a part of ROTC made me want to do it," he said. "I've always wanted to be
something."
Davis believes his strong work ethic, his determination and his discipline earned his admission to West Point.
"I feel that I'm not the best at everything I do," he said. "But hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. As long as I apply myself, everything else falls in place."
He's a 4.0 student, ROTC cadet corps commander, student body president, Eagle Scout candidate and according to Lt. Commander Don Tatum, he's the first African American from Monroe to go to West Point.
Despite his accomplishments, Davis remains humble and grateful, especially to his grandmother, Corine Randle, 91, who reared him since he was seven years old.
"I admire my grandma the most because of her determination," he said. "The last grade she attended was fourth, but she taught me to get my education and to be whatever I wanted to be. She inspired me to do my best."
Davis says that in addition to his grandma's advice, being part of ROTC at Carroll High School helped him to be
successful.
"It taught me discipline and responsibility," he said. "It helps me to narrow things down so that all it took was my initiative to get what I wanted."
Through Boy Scouts and ROTC, Davis participated in more than 100 community service projects, leading a large number of them.
Davis' scout leader Mark Snellgrove said that he is a natural leader and a role model to the younger scouts. "He's always consistent and ready to help," he said. "He has a determination and willingness to go the extra mile to keep the troop running smoothly."
After he completes West Point, Davis will have a five year obligation to military service and that's something he takes very seriously.
"I feel we all have a duty to serve our country either in the military or civilian work," he said. "I don't know what I want to do with my life, but I want to do my best and make an impact on this world and make everybody proud of me."
Book of the Month-The Alchemist
The Alchemist is one of my favorite books, a good friend suggested it to me when I was going thru a difficult time in my life. It basically entails the things that GOD places in our life while we are on our journey of purpose. It encourages you to look at the good and bad in life, and how it will get you to where you are supposed to be in life. It also focuses on having FAITH and TRUSTING that there is something greater, but there must be sacrifices made to see your dreams become reality.
